Step Back

The year 2020 may start off surprising and rich, or perhaps for some, as if a rain cloud is hanging over one's head. There is much to be grateful for, and at times, worried about when it comes to existence and acknowledgment of what needs to be done. Most of the time, many things need to be accomplished, especially in a fast-paced world. What may matter more is how one balances common occurrences and not so common factors which can and will disrupt one's life or way-of-being.

A variation of excuses are used to describe bad behavior, prejudice, and hate-filled remarks, to name a few vulgar responses, and when it comes to certain aspects of everyday life for some or even a bout of anger for others. Perhaps a car accident or unforeseen circumstance suddenly occurred, or even a death in the family (God forbid!) which made life harder and more unbearable. Different factors may contribute to why one may lash out or find life harder than usual, but that is not an excuse for one to ever harm his or herself, or others.

All of us must remember to step back! We must step away from that which is causing an unusual amount of stress or grief, and we must take a break. Although it might seem as if time does not cooperate in matters of great distress, it is vital to stay calm, particularly in situations which may otherwise cause one to be the opposite - for, there is a time to react and a time to respond ... one will force one to think in the blink of an eye and the other will have one make a wise decision. Either way, one should step back when possible and think for a moment, What is my greatest response?

Most of us would do well to breathe and respond thoughtfully, even in stressful or heightened situations because so much can get accomplished if more people decided to simply take a step back, inhale/exhale, and make a wise decision. Such a small act may even bring more peace and joy into more lives. For, it is always wise to step back and breathe!
